Common questions
How does my pet's mood work?
Your pet reflects your walking activity. They perk up as you make progress, get antsy when you've been quiet for a while, get ecstatic when you crush your goal, and sleep overnight. A gentle nudge, not a guilt trip.
How does step tracking work?
Trot counts steps from your iPhone's motion sensors in real time while the app is open, and syncs with Apple Health for your broader history of distance, flights climbed, and active minutes.
Why is some of my data blue?
Blue days and bars are Apple Health history from before you installed Trot, shown for reference but not part of your time walking together. Your goals, streaks, personal bests, and "days hit" counts are all based on the days since you downloaded Trot, when your companion started walking with you.
Is my health data private?
Yes. Your Apple Health data, step counts, and walking history all stay on your device. Trot never uploads or shares them. We do send anonymous usage events (screens you open, ad loads, conversion milestones) to improve the app. These never include your name, your pet's name, your location, or any health data. Full detail in the Privacy Policy.
What's included in Trot Pro?
No ads, home and lock-screen widgets, Month and Year views in Trends, and all future Pro features. The annual plan starts with a free trial for first-time subscribers.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open iOS Settings, tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, find Trot, and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep access through the end of the current billing period.
Can I use Trot in dark mode?
Yes. In Settings, tap Appearance and pick Time of day (matches the dashboard scene, light during the day and dark in the evening), Light, or Dark. The setting applies across the app.
What notifications does Trot send?
Walk reminders, almost-at-goal nudges, goal-hit and personal-best celebrations, streak-at-risk nudges, and a Sunday weekly recap. All are optional and toggle individually in Settings, then Notifications. Change the system permission anytime in iOS Settings, then Notifications, then Trot.
What widgets does Trot offer and how do they stay current?
Home screen: Step Count (small or medium, steps + mood), Mascot Mood (small, mood only), and Week at a Glance (medium, paw row for the last seven days). Lock screen: Daily Progress (today's ring) and Streak (counter with a paw row). Widgets read Apple Health directly on every iOS refresh, so they stay current even when Trot is closed, and step counts never go down during a day. Open Trot once to force a fresh sync. All widgets require Trot Pro.
My step count or history looks wrong. What can I check?
First, confirm Trot has access to both Motion & Fitness and Apple Health in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security. Step counts are sensor-based estimates, so carrying your phone in a pocket or armband gives the most accurate reading. If Trot and Apple Health disagree, Health is authoritative for past days. If days still look off, open Settings, tap Health & Motion, then Re-import data to wipe the local cache and re-fetch everything fresh.
How do I delete my Trot data?
Uninstall Trot from your iPhone. This clears your pet, goal, history cache, and local preferences. Apple Health is unaffected because Trot only reads from Health. If you have an active Trot Pro subscription, cancel it first in iOS Settings, then Subscriptions, so you're not still billed.
Does Trot work on iPad, Apple Watch, or Android?
Trot is iPhone-only right now. iPad, Apple Watch, and Android aren't on the near-term roadmap. Send suggestions to support and we'll consider them.
